The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) was founded in 1888 and conducts over 38 sports at the grassroots level ranging from ages three years(3) to ninety nine(99). In the youth program, a $12 membership allows participation in over 38 sports. The AAU partnered with the Walt Disney World Company in 1995 and serves as one of the anchor tenants to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in sunny Orlando, Florida.

The AAU Boys and Girls Basketball programs have hundreds of thousands of athletes participating in thousands of events across the United States. These events are year around from local leagues, to statewide events, to regional events and much, much more. AAU Basketball has programming for athletes on the elite level, as well as, athletes who just want to play recreationally with their friends.

During the summer months, the AAU is the host for the most competitive and organized National Championship events in the world. These events are held at world class facilities throughout the United States. The National Federation of State High School Associations

The NFHS, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the national leadership organization for high school sports and fine arts activities. Since 1920, the NFHS has led the development of education-based interscholastic sports and fine arts activities that help students succeed in their lives. The NFHS sets direction for the future by building awareness and support, improving the participation experience, establishing consistent standards and Rules for competition, and helping those who oversee high school sports and activities.

The NFHS writes playing Rules for 17 sports for boys and girls at the high school level. Through its 50 member state associations and the District of Columbia, the NFHS reaches more than 19,000 high schools and 11 million participants in high school activity programs, including more than 7.5 million in high school sports. As the recognized national authority on interscholastic activity programs, the NFHS conducts national meetings; sanctions interstate events; produces publications for high school coaches, officials and athletic directors; sponsors professional organizations for high school coaches, officials, spirit coaches, speech and debate coaches and music adjudicators; serves as the national source for interscholastic coach training; and serves as a national information resource of interscholastic athletics and activities.

In 2007, the NFHS Coach Education Program launched www.nfhslearn.com, a learning center for coaches. Courses can be accessed 24 hours a day. The core courses of the program are Fundamentals of Coaching and First Aid for Coaches. Most states across the country use these courses to fulfill their state requirements to coach. In November 2009, the NFHS launched its National Coach Certification Program. To become a Level 1 – Accredited Interscholastic Coach a coach must complete Fundamentals of Coaching (Core Course), First Aid for Coaches (Core Course) OR its equivalent, and a NFHS Sport-Specific course OR Teaching Sports Skills. USA Basketball

Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball is a nonprofit organization and the national governing body for men's and women's basketball in the United States. As the recognized governing body for basketball in the United States by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), USA Basketball is responsible for the selection, training and fielding of USA teams that compete in FIBA sponsored international basketball competitions, as well as for some national competitions.

USA Basketball is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, who are appointed and elected by active members. Phoenix Suns chairman Jerry Colangelo serves as chairman of USA Basketball for the 2009-2012 term. Serving since January 2001 as USA Basketball's CEO/Executive Director is Jim Tooley, who has been with USA Basketball since 1993.

USA Basketball is an organization made up of organizations. There are five member categories – Professional; Collegiate; Scholastic; Youth; and Associate. All told, 25 organizations are members of USA Basketball.

During the 2005-2008 quadrennium, 707 men and women players and 147 coaches participated in USA Basketball, including USA Basketball trials and USA Basketball teams. USA teams competed in 31 major international events from 2005-2008 and won medals an astounding 28 times, including gold or top finishes 22 times, silver four times and bronze medals twice. All told those teams compiled a sparkling 199-23 win-loss record for an 89.6 winning percentage.
